Environmental Management Systems (EMS)/Compliance Specialist

PHE is currently seeking a growth-oriented individual, for a full-time EMS/Compliance Specialist position. This position is to be performed at a DoD facility in the Jacksonville, FL area.
The EMS/Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring our client’s compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining and improving Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in line with the ISO 14001 standard and DoD EMS requirements. This role involves working with various stakeholders to identify compliance risks, promote sustainability, and integrate environmental best practices into operational processes. This position requires the ability to collaborate with teams of scientists, engineers, and other PHE personnel, and the skills to effectively interact with regulatory staff and clients.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Monitor changes in environmental legislation and update the EMS accordingly.
Help to develop and update the organization’s environmental policy.
Help to establish, monitor, and review environmental objectives and targets.
Conduct training programs to enhance environmental awareness among employees.
Maintain and control all EMS-related documents and records.
Ensure proper documentation of all procedures, policies, and records.
Ensure that non-conformances are addressed, and corrective actions are implemented.
Organize and participate in management reviews of the EMS.
Summarize audit findings, performance data, and recommendations for improvement.
Facilitate communication within the organization regarding environmental matters.
Use data analysis to support performance tracking and improvement.
Monitor environmental performance and report to top management.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, engineering, or related field.
ISO 14001 EMS Lead Auditor or similar training.
Relevant Experience:
5+ years of experience in EMS implementation and environmental compliance required.
Experience with ISO 14001 implementation and audits.
Communication Skills: Personable with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to work independently to solve problems.
Professional Attributes: Self-motivated and adaptable working style with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, and other integrated software.
Work Authorization: Must have legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
Must be eligible to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) and be able to pass a nationwide FBI background check.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
ISO 14001 EMS Lead Auditor or similar relevant professional certification.
Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations and permitting processes (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, etc.).
Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements for federal and military operations.
Experience working onsite at military installations (preferred) or other federal facilities
Proficient in EMS software and tools for tracking compliance, conformance, and environmental performance.
Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint
